Minimum Public Toilet Stall Dimensions

Requiring enough internal clear floor space for a wheelchair to make a 180 turn accessible bathrooms must have either a 60 152 5 cm diameter turning circle or a t shaped turning space located within a 60 152 5 cm square with a minimum of 36 91 4 cm wide arms.

While the numbers may vary in accordance with the unique characteristics of your bathroom space a standard toilet stall is 36 inches wide and 60 inches deep. Ambulant toilet cubicles must be between 900 920 wide with a minimum depth of toilet pan 900 circulation space to the inside of the toilet cubicle door. The minimum depth for a partition stall is 48 inches but the depth can be as much as 78 inches if necessary. The centerline of the water closet is 18 inches 455 mm from the side wall.

For commercial bathrooms with multiple toilet stalls and handicap the rules change a little. In a corner handicap stalls require a minimum of 60 x 60 compartment and is required with a minimum door size of 32 and the maximum size and more common is the 36 door.

This depth is typically 1600mm. That means you should consider anything that may be projecting from the walls. Accessible stalls according to the ada should be a minimum of 60 inches wide and 56 inches deep if the toilets are mounted on the wall and there should be enough room within for a person in a wheelchair to move around unhindered. Partition stalls can have a minimum depth of 48 in most cases or up to 78 depth if needed. The minimum width of the stall is 60 inches 1525 mm. You want to make sure you are measuring exactly where the partitions will be placed because bathrooms are not always exactly square. If the depth of a standard toilet stall is increased at least 3 in 75 mm then a floor mounted water closet may be used.
