Pry the metal away from the cut line with a slot screwdriver and pliers until the ring separates from the flange.

Scrape the old wax ring from the existing flange and then from the bottom of the toilet bowl. Gently rock it side to side to break this seal. Tilt up the toilet and push the new wax ring into place. Best of all is replacing the flange.
